Well ..had to go and spend almost 6 weeks doing reserve time for the Army in Norway... trust me ... Nov and Dec is not the time to go there ... the weather was enough to make me genocidal ...I guess that is one reason why they have strict guncontrol ....
But to the point ... I did spend some time going to the museums and so ... a LOT of history there ...but as the mean bastard i am ... I thought I'd ruin some k98 collectors day (pretending I'm not crying myself) ...and showing a pice of Mauser "art" from the National Resistance Museum
I do have to admit though ...if I was going to decorate my house with "art" I would have loved to have this piece of "art" in my house though ....You guys would not have believed the rare codes found there ... but to get the blood pressure down ... all I saw were rebarrelled to 30-06 and stamped HÆR etc

Even though I'm a hard core Mosin man ... I felt like crying ..the older I get the worse it feels ...
Doesn't really comfort me they all seem to be 30-06 k98 F1 ...but if they should want to throw it away I'll take in a heartbeat. The Mausers are all welded together and sprayed with Panzergray paint ... but with gentle cleaning and a bit of work ... they could all come alive again

Funny ..but when I was younger - and lived out there ... I never really reflected over the "waste" of the Mausers when I went there ... I think it was because "all" of the kids I knew had a k98 that had been "forgotten" by the germans

Just as an example ... I used to have a girlfriend close to Bardu in northern Norway ...her dad had 20-25 k98's ...untouched just stacked in his basement ...but since I was "elg rifle" ...moose gun I could have picked any of them ....I tried REALLY HARD to get one of the 3 G33/40 he had but no way ....

Just for the record. NSB is the Norwegian State Railways (Norges Stats Baner)...they used to have k98's in the cab of the locomotives to kill off animals that were hit by the train ... and it was ... well is a common occurrence ... don't know if they still have the k98's for that though ...
I would LOVE to have one of the NSB marked rifles ...since I'm a train buff too

And ... as I forgot. I think all the one's marked POLITI (police) have been G33/40's ... but then again ... back when I was dealing with the stuff there I didn't really know better ...and I base the fact on the buttplate ..
And for those who are interested ... there is at least one with the new HÆR number stamped on the right hand side .... we joked about it that we should just throw it away since it didn't have the nunmber on the left hand side ...and as such didn't really count

Stacking them is not art, WELDING them together using sight ramps is.
Looks to me as if sombody has been removing slings based on the clean spots on the lumber.
I wonder if they are rotting off or if they are appearing on e-pay?

I think I saw the piece of "art" the first time in the mid to late 70's ... they did not have any slings on them ... but I "accidentally" tried to see if I could get one of the bolts off. I was able to ... now that bolt is welded in place ...see I put it back ... I'm not a thief ... I was just a bit curious ....
And when I was down at the museum .. there was a school class or something ... and I think ALL of them had to touch it

I know some of the guys on the forum will STRONGLY disagree with me ... so plaes give me some slack. But if anyone is going to ruin Mausers and make them into "art" ... I would like to have this piece of "art" though ....

WWII collectors, we must retaliate! This dessication of precious history is an act of war against us and the Mauser collectors! Together we can infiltrate Norway and rescue those poor Mausers and adopt them out to good loving homes in museums and private collections!

Yes, this is a joke, for those of you wondering. If the museum DOES decide to sell them, cool, but no this isn't a real decoration of war against them. Although it should be, because that is a sinful waste of beautiful historical guns.

Lol ... I do totally agree ... we should try to liberate the poor mausers ...

But on the serious side ... about the time this piece of "art" was constructed we still used the Mausers by thje numbers with the National Guard ... and they wre initially sold of at the price of 200 Norwegian Kroner ... that is ..less than $30 ... and as late as about 10 years or so they sold off ..not sure about the numbers but 10 000+ Mausers from the arsenals. I only traded in my MP 40 for an MP 5 in 1993 .... granted ... I tried to keep mine as long as possible ...and was avoiding attention any way I could so no superior officer would see that I carried an "antique" instead of an MP 5
