I picked up this mount the other day believing it might work on a Mauser 22. I have found, however, that it does not fit an 11mm rail. It looks to be for maybe a 13mm rail....? It also has what appears to be "Waffenampt" markings and "byf" Mauser markings. It also has the number "27" and some sort of other marking "*Z2A2"? It appears to be for a 22mm scope tube. Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.....

The "byf" code was the wartime code for Mauser, if I remember well used from 1941 on-I cant imagine to which WWII german weapon could this mount belong; if it carries a waffenamt stamp and byf code it was certainly destined for an armed force-

I have seen one like it, somewhere, sometime.......I can't remember where, or what type of rifle it was on.......I just remember being puzzled by the fact that there's only a clamp on one end, and a rest on the other end......I checked it out on a Brno Mod. 1 that I bought last weekend and it fit perfectly, so it must be for a 16mm rail......Can you guys think of any other rifles that have the 16mm rail......?

ok here's a few hintsthe marking is SSZZA2 and denotes SS issue - if its genuine! - and not stamped on recently to make a forgery - so that tells you that you only need to look at what SS issued weapons the mount would suit - probably a 22rf training rifle- basiclaly you can ignore any other weapons that are either commercial or Regular Heerthe mode of mount looks Akah in style especially the rear lever locking, and seems plausible as dating from the pre-war eralook at 1930's Akah catalogs to see if can find what model it is (if not a one-off prototype it should be listed)run your enquiry on the k98k website 22rf trainer thread and other on any other sites that specialise in SS gear - the self proclaimed experts there (all sites are full of them) will either immediately poo poo it as a fake or swoon over it (or both at same time - lol) - if its either you will still get offers to buy - 2x lol - hang out if its genuine as it may be very rarere the mount design - it is see thru - designed for a straight tube scope - probably a kleiner or 22 rf scope - and the screw windage adjustment is at the rear end - now for the only confounding part : BUT WHAT HOLDS THE FRONT END SECURE???????? seems to have a semi moon cut so that it can fit straight over/onto receiver/barrell - maybe ? BUT HOW ITS HELD onto the rifle securely enough to provide accuracy is a mysteryyou may get an answer on other websites surely the mount and its scope doesn't fit over a zf41 scope already mounted on the barrell as an aid to zero in the ZF41 scope????????very odd design!!!!let us know what you find outadded comments - my best guess if its not faked its an armourers tool to help sight in a 22 rf trainer fitted with a zf41 scope - the rear part of the mount is locked onto the front receiver grooves while the front part sits loosely on barrel or over the zf41 body while in use

im not sure what it fits..but Im leaning on the markings being bogus.. There is no ryme to reason why it would be stamped 27 byf e/ ?? Then sszza2 ??? Things that are ss are not army proofed and visa versa.. So someone overstamped this sucker.. Byf's code was e/135 so if this was legit the stamp would read E/135 and it does not.. Point made !

I am one of the "self proclaimed experts" and I say its a fake, the german stamped their wares, but theres an order and meaning in them, and in this case they are simply contradicting each other, as I said before and mauser 99 clearly expressed-

Well guys I certainly don't proclaim to be an expert on anything.....I just wonder who the Jack Leg was that tried to fake something that doesn't exist?.....I'm no Rhodes Scholar or anything, but if I were going to go to the trouble of faking something, I'd select something of extreme scarcity and value that everyone knows about.......Getting back to the original question, does anyone know what it fits?......I didn't even know there were any proof marks on it when I bought it; I just thought it might fit a Mauser 22.....

swammie i'm with you on this - the fake or original marks/stampings is an irrelevant issue , the correct issue is: is the item itself ORIGINAL ie made as it currently exists for some purpose and WHAT is the purpose?you need to find someone who may be able to fill in the dotsas already stated the front semi moon cut obviously fits over something - loosely it seems - but maybe you are wrong in thinking its a scope mount , maybe its proper role is a tool of some kind (holds a scope but not for permanent attachment or for use as a scope mount for normal rifle shooting)any type of mount would need to be firmly secured even if just for a 22 rf - recently at a range using my heavy octoganal barrell 1930's falling block Haenel ss 22 rf mounted with a 20x remington scope in bench rest type dial mounts the scope was still able to move fwd even with the 22 rf recoil being very minimal - so mounts on a a 22rf have to be secured properly don't see how your item can be secured so must opt that it is used 'loose' (at front) the item doesn't seem capable of use on a drilling either - what on a drilling barrel would hold the front of the mount scurely in place? nothing I can think of - why the semi moon shape when it would have been easy enought to make a dovetail front base?must be a tool of some kindl
