This has been posted before, but I took some better pictures for my records and thought I would share them. This is a combat seasoned Kokura 21. The blue is in very nice shape, though I have not had time to clean off the surface rust. Screws on the bands and triggerguard are still staked in position and have not been moved. Stock has a few dings and dents from use, but most of the urushi varnish is intact. Chromed bore and bolt face are in excellent condition.
I'm guessing by the dent behind the cleaning rod release that this originally had a square foot monopod? Anybody got one?;)

More pics follow...

Bolt is matching, though the safety knob is a factory mistake 173 instead of 718. Dust cover matches as well. Bolt design is dirt simple, though the cock-on-close action seems to be much stiffer than my Enfield.

There is some brownish goo on the front of the triggerguard and floorplate and has discolred the stock a bit as well. Blood?

I've always wanted a 99, and I've found I really like the Arisaka's simplicity. Hopefully, I will be adding more to my collection, but I am both a mum snob and a dust cover snob (where applicable) so it will probably be a bit of a challenge.

Nice T99! Looks like it's sporting a Nagoya monopod. I don't think that I would agree with you that the safety (# 173) is a "factory mistake." I think that the safety is just mismatched to the rifle (although it is a Kokura safety). That's a pretty common occurence (mismatched safety) as I understand that the safeties were often collected from GIs returning home to render the rifles "safe" during the trip to the USA, and then returned on arrival without regard to the serial number of the rifle. Also, the cleaning rod looks like it has a flat tip and may not be a Kokura rod. Kokura rods generally have domed tips.

Good luck with your collecting!

Hi Ryane, I see you have a Nagoya pod with a Kokura rifle. I have the exact opposite, where I have a Nagoya rife and a Kokura pod. Was wondering if you would want to swap the two pods, so we both correct for our matching rifles. Let me know.
thanks Fin
