Sorry, I'm not really a .22 kind of guy but it seems like that is all I've seen lately.

All three are VG condition, the MAS & Norinco look new.

The Mauser is one of the earlier ones (from what little I know) - 5 digit serial, short stubby bolt (bolt is m/m number).

Any ballpark numbers appreciated.

If your interest is plinking the Norinco could be your gun, lowest price, good precision and only one with grooves for scope-A friend of mine has one and its a pleasure to shoot-

I still see the MAS 45's sell for $300.00 or slightly below on the auction sites, so I think $300.00 should be one in excellent condition. The Norincos are very cheaply made, but generally are quite good shooters. To me it would be hard to justify over $150.00 or so for one though.

Get the MAS. I was never a .22 plinker, but when I bought mine, I became a convert. Paid $300 new in the wrapper and the stock is beyond belief.

JB & Amtraker, you make me feel guilty of passing my recommendation of the Norinco-I thought our friend was a newcomer in this field (his first post)and begginers prefer the scoped guns,I myself would never buy the Norinco, even at 100 bucks because my line are true trainers and not cheap knock offs like the chinese rifle-BTW, the action of the Norinco KKW is a copy of the Brno but last week at the range one of the guys inserted the original Brno magazine in the Norinco and the thing got stuck into the slot, took him five minutes to take it out with a lot of patience-never try it-

I appreciate all the opinions, especially since I didn't give a lot of info to start off.

If I pick one up I am leaning towards the Mauser. I have an Oberndorf Wehrmannsgewehr. Add an Oberndorf .22 and all I need is a Oberndorf sporter for a nice trio of Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles!

Most of my collection doesn't get shot, the Swede target rifles being the exception. The MAS & Norinco don't hold much appeal for me, other than trade bait if I could get them for a good price.

Again, thanx for the info & opinions.

The Mauser doesn't sound like a KKW. Short stubby bolt handle would be more like an ES340, if it's a singleshot and 5 digit serial number. price about 300 to 400 in good condition. Really need more infomation to identify it though.

My bad, it is not a KKW, I should have made that correction earlier.

I need to get back and take a detailed look at the Mauser to ID it exactly (I only know enough to be dangerous, and didn't pay enough attention to able to compare to Speed's book)

I am hoping to head back that way tomorrow.

"if its a single shot it could be a DSM 34, looks like a leaner miltary rifle-Below part of my collection of DSM's"

Part?? Good grief, I knew your collection was impressive, but it seems trainer collections can be like icebergs...what is seen is only a small part of the whole! ;-)

I see quite a few Norinco KKW rifles for sale here.I own a JW-15 and also a JW-23 Norinco (.22 and .22 magnum sporters) and although they are not the equal of the BRNO rifles in quality of manufacture,I am very happy with them. They would last a lifetime of hard use just like the BRNO rifles and shoot very accurately, despite the huge numbers of Norinco .22 rifles here I hear of very few complaints about them, apart from the pretty crude standard of finish.

mas 45 will shoot--

:) when my all my friends where alive friends we were shooting alot when we where younger. we had/have the top 22,s anshults 64s /54s, kimbers, 52,s rem, built rugers and the excellent mas 45s. with the right ammo they will shoot with the sporter kimbers/64 anshults:eek:a little tuning/of the beding/lapping barrel { i custom finished the stock} they are range ready. we have had about 5 between us all of them shot with excellence. :Dand one even had the mauser banner and mas on it too? but we found the ammo was the trick after you find what it likes eley, green tag , federal, ect, russian match{mine likes this stuff} and you will out shoot some of the best at your with open sights we could bust small rocks at 150yards of the back stop range and targets had to be changed often, buy one. ive seen 98% ones bring $450-<><school teacher.

I'm with you DK, the MAS is a sweetheart, I've got two, one with double stamp Mauser 45A/MAS and a regular MAS-Precision is perfect ,well ,its a Mauser, the bolt in fact is interchangeable with that of the KKW-The only observation I must add is that the peep sight, which for me is OK, isnt so for everybody, and I'm speaking experienced shooters, a friend of mine who is an excellent shot cant find the proper way to deal with the peep sights, it sounds incredible for me, but it happens

I like the MAS and the Norinco

I like the MAS-45. There are 3 variations, Mauser banner receiver, Mauser Banner and MAS marked, and just the MAS markings. Mauser banner ones command a small premium all else being equal. See image below. Super quality and accurate.

The Norinco TU-KKW and TU-33/40 (carbine) are quite accurate. They also had versions that used the small Red Star scope and SKS-type side mount with knob used on the PRC SKS rifles in the late 80s. That combo is hard to find now. While they are grooved, you need high reings to clear the bolt handle.
