To bad they didn't get a hold of me ahead of time I would have sent them medals to hold there shoot as Provincial Match.
Actually the could still hold a provincial. They haven't established a course of fire yet. I would just have send the medals after the fact.

The Victorian Rifleman Medal goes to anyone who shoots a Provisional match with a Victorian era rifle in 2007. Final score is not relevant, only that the match is shoot with a type of rifle used by Queen Victoria's Troops.
If 10 people shoot Martini's in the provisional I will send ten medals. You folks will have to find the appropiate ribbon in your country colors to attach.

THE BASIC PROVINCIAL MATCH
13 rounds at 100 yards fired on the 50 meter UIT Slow fire Pistol Target B-17. Best ten hits count. Any position, sling may be used. No rests. Use any rifle of a type as originally used by Queen Victoria’s Armies during her reign using black powder. .303 only may be shot with Smokeless powder.
I do ask that the score of each shooter be posted here. We don't necessarily need the shoters name, but would like to have the rifle type and score.
The purpose is to encourage shooters around the world to get together and shoot their rifles. By recording the scores and entering them into the data base I have started we are able to get some standard of expection. We can see what these rifles actually capable of doing.

I am working on a 2 year contract here in SA and will return home to the U.S. in 4 months.
I must also add that so far there have been provincial matches fired in South Africa, Canada, Falkland Islands and the US.
I sure would like to see the UK and NZ folks shoot one also.

Honest Douglas it is on my list of things to do here in New Zealand. Frankly at the moment mate I just don’t have the time. I started a new business venture 3 years ago and since then my trigger pulling has been restricted to vintage air rifles and pistols in the garden with my grandson. I am sure I could put together enough chaps to make it work but I just don’t have the time to organize it at the moment. I trust things will change soon. There is just one other negative factor. When it comes to shooting open sighted Martini’s I must be one of the worst shots on this board. My eyes are not what they were and even when they were at there very best I was never more then a slightly above average shot. I see targets shot by people like Gert and my mouth drops open.
There have been only two highlights in my target shooting life. In 1994 I won the Wellington Service Rifle Association best Kalashnikov trophy. The weather was crap and I suspect the other contestants had bad days rather then me having a good one.
However on ANZAC day in 1999 at the Trentham range I used my first wave (Sam Cummings ex Nepal) MKIV Martini to win the Waireka trophy for pre bolt action Commonwealth service rifles. It is an old story but off hand, bayonet fixed, I managed to get all my five shots in the black at 50 yards. I should add that the black was the size of a dinner plate. I have never shot that well with a 577-45 before or since. I was chuffed. It has been all down hill since then (smile).

The Provisional is not intended to be competitive match. The Provisional is intended to be a measure of the rifle.
The Medal I have goes to every person who shoots, not the best score. Everyone who shoots a Provisional gets a medal. You are only required to shoot the format as described, on the target described and post the scores. When you post the score, we don't care who shot the score, we want to know what rifle shot the score. That's all. The purpose is to establish a mean score demonstrating what the various rifles are is capable of.
If your club wishes to shoot it as a competition that's up to you. But it is not a condition of the Victorian Rifleman Provisional Medal.

Damn, I'm still waiting for my permits so I can take possession of my $180 special! It's a bitser, but it's MY bitser!
Is there much interest in the Martini in my part of the world, southern New South Wales? What about loading 455/577?
