Can anyone tell me what the marks on the top of the buttplate on my 71/84 Mauser mean. It's an 1886 Spandau, #1914. The marks read-

29. R
5. 82.

These are located on the top of the buttplate behind the screw. Thanks in advance, JM the toolman.

29th (Infantry) Regiment, 5th company, weapon number 82 (within the company).
19th (Infantry) etc.

confirmed, some more details:

29th:
Infanterie-Regiment von Horn No. 29 (3th Rheinische / Rhenish), founded in 1813, garrison: Trier (Treves)

19th:
Infanterie-Regiment von Coubiére No. 19 (2. Posensches), founded in 1813, garrison Goerlitz (staff, first and 3th battalion) and Lauban (second battalion)
