Good score.I would like to add another Finnish nagant to my collection.
The teenagers prowl the tables looking for bargins during setup on Fridays, I need to know what table they operate out of.Nice M39, beautiful stock...saw Deans display too and was debating on whether I needed an M28 but decided against it. This show at Market Hall was one of the lousiest ever...even the overpriced 91/30 refurbs were far and few. And don't get me started on Mausers...pitiful would describe it best...
Did anybody else notice those two teenagers that are fronting for a dealer and are trying to bamboozle walk-ins out of their guns for next to nil? Watched them for a bit, quite a clever setup...they talk to walk-ins pretending they are regular teens looking for a rifle and lo' behold a little later the rifle appears on the dealers desk for a kings ransom...
Saw that 94/14 and thought that it was just too good to be true...IIRC his asking price was something like $795 or so. The whole rifle (and the wood in particular) was almost pristine with the exception of the added barrel extension that was required at the time of importation. Either this puppy sports a cut down M96 stock (the wood and grain looked like that) or the guy doesn't know his stuff which I doubt since he had a few more swedes for sale at market prices...Did you by chance see the pristine Swede '94 at the table on the back ? Beautiful rifle.
Dean, I don't remember a sign or name associated with the dealers table. He was sitting on the east end (or whatever direction the entrance is located on) of the first or second row on the south side. Not the row along the wall but the first or second one from there...The teenagers prowl the tables looking for bargins during setup on Fridays, I need to know what table they operate out of.
Now Ron you are not telling everything about the show, how it was 3 inchs of snow on on the untreated & unsanded freeways in Dallas.Went to Market Hall gun show in Dallas today. The place was dead. Lots of dealers. They even opened up the north hall to accomidate the overflow of dealer tables. Not many customers and few of them buyers. Saw dealers playing cards at their table.
There were lot of black guns, but too few surplus. I did see a few Mosins here are there, but mostly overpriced. MGS had its usual selection and some good prices, but nothing that appealed to me. I saw Eric at the show and it was nice talking with him.
Most of the way through the tables I spotted a Finn capture SVT. I noticed it was surrounded by Finn Mosins. Then the dealer called my name and I looked up at him. It was Dean-Dallas. He had quite a selection of rare Finnish Mosins. I spend some time looking at them and talking with Dean before I moved on. His asking prices were above the amount in my wallet or I would have tried to bargain with him one of what he had. Not saying they were too high, just worth more than I could pay.
I finished walking through the place and started back the other way. On the last row I saw a young man with a Finnish looking Mosin on his shoulder. I asked if he was selling it and he said $300. I talked him down to $275 and he seemed surprised when I accepted. Probably should have tried to go lower, but I had already agreed. The gun is a 1943 SKY M39 in a tiger stripe stock. The handguard has a really interesting grain pattern. Receiver is 1905 Izhevsk. The finish on the metal is almost gone except under the wood where it is near perfect. The wood finish is also very worn.
An interesting feature is that the rear barrel band has a brass insert. It is between the sections of the screw hole.
It is a CAI import marked "98/22 8mm Czecho".
My wife was looking at me in a different light when she asked how the weather was Sunday morning at 5am.DeanDalls said: "You know give me a break, it is not the best time to have a gunshow. Heck Mark Kelley did not even show up & we all know how he is."
I'm still trying to recover from the Mongolian Lung Fungus. Spent most of last week dry heaving from drainage, too many OTC meds that put my brain on spin cycle at night, and a lack of funds after finding a Springfield 03 in College Station while visiting my son who never calls or writes. I have been feeling so bad I didn't even feel like wanting to go. Crappy weathr on Saturday and Sunday sealed the deal.
I looked at a few most were low priced compared to what I have seeing on Gunbroker if that is any gage.Any Martinis seen? Especially Cadets (converted or un-messed with) or other small actions?
I had one poor show this weekend, but the weather was a stinker Sunday.I stopped setting up at gunshows as of last fall. I found that nobody was buying, and with the cost of the table rent, I was loosing money. Packed up all my stuff, put it away, and I am just waiting until:
A) The economy turns around and people have money to start buying again, or:
B) The Great And Almighty Obimnator starts making gun control noises.
Yeah OK All right I will wait on you,, as long as I don't have to hold my breath.Dean, I'm buying a lottery ticket. If I win I'll stop by your house on the way home from the bank and help you finance your solar panels.
I would have had money to buy one of your nice guns, but I had to loan my daughter money last week to buy asthma meds for my grandson. Also my wife spent her unemployment check buying epilepsy meds for her mother instead of giving it to me to buy guns. Didn't want to bug her about wasting money like that until after her friends' funerals.
I really liked your guns and hope to save up enough money by summer to pick up a couple if I don't have to pay too much in taxes this year.
Have you noticed how many on-line gun auctions are happening in the midwest? And out in Calif. they are bringing obscene prices for run of the mill weapons.I guess things here in the Midwest are a bit more depressed, because the shows have gotten very, very sad.
