Hi All,
This is probably a stupid question, but when did the Finn's make VKT barrels? I only ask because yesterday I was in a local gunsmith's shop to have some work done on a shotgun. He has a M91 with this mark on it. Looks to be arsenal re-finished but it has cleaning rod and sling swivels. I can't remember any other marks or the date. He wants 325.00 for it. I wish I would have looked closer at it, but that price scared me. TIA.

VKT produced M91's dated 1940 through 1942. They also made M39's dated 1940-1943, though you almost never see any 1940 or 1943 (very rare) dates. They also made a few M27's between 1932 and 1935, but those are also very rare.

$325 is somewhat higher than market value. Normally $180-225 is the range.

I hate to rain on anyone party, but Palokangas writes that the first VKT M-91 barrels were delivered in September 1941. Also the M-39 VKT barrels were delivered 1941-1944.
Who is Markku Palokangas? He wrote the 3 vol. set Finnish Military weapons 1918-1988, and he runs the military museum in Helsinki Finland.

One more interesting fact, Palokangas writes VKT delivered 36,757 M-91 barrels, and 92 V marked M-91 barrels before the Contunitation War was over.

VKT also produced M39s into 1944.
