Hey everybody, I got a M42 German helmet recently at an auction. It's a badly repainted/redecal'ed example, but seemed pretty nice otherwise, and for the price I couldn't argue. The strange thing about it is there's a square, approximately one-inch-wide bracket loop on the outside of back of the neck skirt.

I seem to recall the Spanish did similar mods to their helmets, but it seems factory and riveted on rather than some improvised, tacked-on thing.

What's the deal?

Vic, is this a Hungarian or Romanian helmet? I could get out the Baer book but it's all the way over there...just past my reach. I ask because I have what is basically an m35 with the same bracket, but it's thicker material and narrower. I thought it was Romanian.
