Dumb newbie question. Did finland make their on receivers for the M39 or build on captured russian receivers? Reason I ask is I finally got my M39 pawnshop find home and stripped it down. Its a VTK 1942 and I believe its built on a Tula 1896 receiver. I found under the tang (96r.) under a hammer. Is this common to find?

I will post pics in a different thread if anyone is interested in examining it.

Answer to your questions, no Finns did not make any receivers and yes Finnish Mosin-Nagants were build around Russian and Soviet receivers.

As fas as I can see, Tula 1896 is pretty common find.

Thanks for the info. I have a Finn-capture 1938 Izhevsk 91/30, and that was pretty easy to identify. I thought all Finns were built on captures, but wasn't positive.
