Saw a M38 wartime stock (no handguard) in very good condition, no cracks, in a gunshop today. Is the M38 stock relatively hard to find? Most M38's I see have the M44 stock with the cutout for the bayonet. Please advise. Thanks.

I wouldn't say hard to find. Generally speaking, I don't see many M38's often but when I do, I see more of them in their own stocks than in m44 stocks. That's just me though, I'm not sure about anyone else!

If you want an M38 in an M38 stock, I'd jump on it. You can always add a hand guard to it after. They are around $25 usually.

Yea depends on the price. You are saying stock only you saw? If you want a M38 stock for a M38 action and the price isn't too bad, then it sounds like something you might consider buying then.
