A friend of mine has two M44's that are like new looking condition. One is dated 1946 and the other is dated 1947. Both have wooden not laminated stocks. Bores on both are like mirrors. The bluing on both is without a blemish. Best guest on the value of these?

If you find one at a show that the dealer has no specific separation on rarity or date then I agree with Ted. If you go to a specialty dealer for condition and date examples then add 50.00

I forgot to take into account the relative scarcity of the 1947 date. It's nothing like a 1943, but you could add a little more to it than the 1946.
Yup! I would get the 47. I had one and let it go. Have not seen one since. Still looking for the Big 5 $89 one, but I would do $125.

Ted I'm not being facetious or anything but why do you have 15 1945's?

It was a very good year? :D

Okay, seriously, here's a breakdown.

1 - hex receiver
3 - earlier round receivers (I know, one is an example, but I'm a sucker for these "rebuilds". Besides, one is an Izhevsk receiver and the other two are Tula receivers but one of them a hardwood stock and one a laminated stock, so all three are unique.)
1 - Soviet "zig-zag" spliced stock
1 - MO marked
1 - "Albanian" stocked
1 - Hungarian stock with Kossuth crest on the barrel
1 - DDR marked with hardwood stock
1 - DDR marked with laminated stock
1 - Instructie marked
2 - Exercitiu marked (I know, duplicates, but how many people have even seen one! Besides, one is marked on the barrel and the other on the receiver.)
1 - Nothing special about it really. I bought a "case lot" way back from Aztec. It's actually still in the box as trading fodder.
1 - Yugoslavian 1.TRZ marked
1 - laminated stock with hardwood toe (also DDR marked)
1 - low wall (very uncommon for 1945) also laminated stock with hardwood toe (I'm also a sucker for unusual stocks)
1 - low wall (another duplicate) with "mixed" sling slot escutcheons of pressed rear, bottom liner in the front.

The grand total is actually 18 1945 dated M44s, but many of them are unique. I could probably get rid of about 6 of them and still have all the same variations covered, but I enjoy rifles a lot more than money in the bank, so why not keep them?

I just noticed the early Tula round receiver with the hardwood stock has a laminated toe, so that makes it unique.

Thats the one you got from me right?

I must apologize to everyone for using foul language on the boards. (Poop is a banned word) I have been verbally reprimanded and must do 57 "Hail Mosins" as punishment. I've also been banned from good gun shows and must mingle in the wastelands of "beanie baby" and "beef jerky" gunshows for the remainder of the year.
