hello guys ,,well added a new addition to the list today,,model 1895 calvary carbine,,looks complete with side swivel stock ,,no bayo lug,,mismatched but i guess this may be common,,marked CE W G Steyr on the receiver no date,,down side somebody drilled and tapped the receiver for scope mounts ,,looks like a long time ago,,marks on the barrel above the chamber are W.N. what looks like a tree and 93,,carbine is a neat example of a calvary carbine,,non import stamped,, bore is really good,,got it for 50 bucks ,,good or bad? were many made in the calvary specs?and finally what caliber do you guys think it might be in 8x50 or 8x56?is it possible this may be a model 1890?
anybody have a clue as to the markings on the stock in the last pic?

Sounds like an M90 to me! Does it have a big "S"? If not, 8x50mm. The only M90's I've seen converted to 8x56 were also converted to M95 sights and stocks/handguard.

You did real good! Too bad about the drills/taps, but M90's in any shape are hard to find.

yea i know ..i hate to see the holes also,,but who knows how many deer were taken with this old war horse,,lol,, no S on the chamber so i'm guessing it's still original caliber,,thanks for the info ,,i wasn't sure of which model it was but for the price i thought it had to be worth 50 bucks!! ..lol..lol..

That's quite a deal for $50. Congratulations! With a 1893 acceptance stamp, it's too early to be an M95. Nice to see one that hasn't been altered to M95 standards.

Nice find! Sad to see the scope mount holes, but it is still QUITE a deal. You did VERY well. It's an original cavalry carbine. What is the serial number, if you don't mind sharing. These are very tough to find. Total M1890 carbine production was around 110,000, and I think most of that was for the extra corps carbine. The carbine seems to be much less frequently encountered. It's nice to see the Wn 93 date on the barrel. Some do not have that marking, but have a slightly different eagle proof on the right side of the barrel and receiver. Can you post a clost up pic of the eagle proof on the side of the receiver?

Actually, the cavalry carbine was the most widely produced at around 60,000 and is the most commonly encountered weapon. The next comes the repetierstutzen and the gendarmerie-karabiner is the rarest.

The bolt on this cavalry carbine is not original, it is from M.95 - note the oval back, not the round one. Only the cocking piece is the old style.

Wow. Must be a regional thing. I think I've seen 3 or 4 ECG's for each Cavalry Carbine around here. Could just be a survival rate though...
I think the Cav. Carbine is the handiest of all. In some ways, I prefer it to the M95.

Definitely regionally skewed distribution! Over here the cavalry carbines are the only ones I see. That's why I was so happy when a nice forum member traded me a gendarmerie-karabiner
