Maybe that dude is left-handed and struggling to get things right??

That is a very strange way to grip a Luger. One of the pleasures of the Luger design is how it sits so comfortably in the hand; almost points itself.

Looks like we called strong hand supported or weak hand supported - more for around a corner or using a tree

That was the shooting style up to the 1940s everywhere. Bent elbow and the pistol near your face. The old marksmanship pistol stance comes from pistol dueling. All big bones have to inclined and the arm protects your chest. The only thing that has changed in ISSF sport shooting is the straight arm stance. Two hand combat shooting stance is quite new...

Seen a number of training pics like this. It indeed was the drill in those days.
I had to renew my CCL recently and there was a range fire portion.
I used my normal one hand strong side stance.
The youngsters desperately clenching their new plastic guns in both paws looked at me like I was from another planet.
Whatever works.

well…that’s that. I have just seen very few people take that grip when not in full “teapot” stance, usually illustrated on Swiss postcards and ads for competitive shooting.

I'd like to have been there in line with them with a give-a-way luger, belt, holster and a lot of practice ammo. What a time that must have been !!!

Times are changing, I can't imagine any of these techniques used today.
