Just wondering what is the highest and lowest # numbers you guys have seen on a Mosin Nagant?

I just picked up a 1903 M91 which is serial number 34. I don't have any real high ones, I bet a REM or NEW will be the highest.

Saw a two letter Prefix # 2 way back when the refurbs first came on market.

I think I have a two letter prefix # 9999 in my mosin pile somewhere.

I have a 1931 91/30 with the serial number 1 on the bolt, magazine, and buttplate. The barrel is a Tula ,dated 1931, and the serial number is OM1. Have no idea what OM stands for. Have any info?

I have an ex-sniper, Tula with that is #36. I know it's not the lowest, but the lowest I have. Part of the reason I bought it.

SAT barreled M91 with sn 118. This would be about the middle of SAT barrel production. Not low for those barrels, but low compared to some old Mosin Nagant rifles I have!

I recently played the Cabela's lottery and ended up with a '43 izzy ex sniper all matching including bayonet #111

I am finding more research material, and the numbers went to double cyrillic letters as a preface, but, as were the numbers, were not created nor issued sequentially. There was fear that during wartime, captured weapons could be part of the necessary info to calculate numbers of troops.

Newest information is that the total arsenal exceeds 79 million produced, for all models, through 1965. Awaiting printed materials and sources.
They might be still classified as state secrets...

I saw a 1951 Tula 1891/30, # 2700, no letters in the prefix, at the last West palm Beach show, 16 Feb. 2013. Even the bayonet and buttplates were correctly numbered!

I have a M91 numbered 2173. Not the smallest serial number, but one of the earliest known. It is on an 1891 M91.
