Hello I have a mauser pocket pistal my Great Uncle brought back from the western front and inside the holster there is what I assume is Japanese writing i am not sure if it is all there i am assuming it was the name of the soldier that carried it i took a few pictures the writing is not very clear so I am not too hopeful.
Your picture 074309 has the correct orientation. The writing is a name. The first two words is a surname Kobayashi 小林. The rest of the name is almost illegible.
From what it sounds like is Kobayashi is like haven the last name of Anderson if i am able to believe Wikipedia according the them it is the 8th or 10th most popular sir name.
Martin08 suggested I might have some luck here in regards to the stamp on the tail of this 1934 mauser pocket pistal I am interested to see if it is in some way Japanese maybe so with that here are some more pictures in another post I found out it is an early 1934
