You are. I have seen stright pulls before. There are a few videos of them out there.
I mentioned bolt action because I thought I saw a picture of one but have not been able to find it again. Did not now if actually existed or if I was just seeing things.
Straight pull AR....single shot AR then. well....just load up 80 gr Match King and they won't feed in mag and you got to use the rifle as a straight pull and single load the ammo. Any AR in 5.56 will suffice.
I can tell you this, I do 80 gr loads and they are a PITA to single load and no less a PITA to rack charging handle all the time from prone.
A bolt action or straight pull offers nothing for the AR platform, unless you are forced into using one through some silly law there is no reason to spend money and get less (it will be more expensive).
When talking accuracy at what range will you be shooting? IMO you can spend $300-400 for a nice 1-7 free float upper and achieve around if not sub MOA accuracy out to around 600yds, if you are chasing the absolute smallest groups at ranges further out (800+yds) then you might want to spend more. If staying under 300yds a heavy 16-18 barrel will work, if out to 600yds a 20 inch barrel ought to work, if over that you might need to look for a 24 inch barrel...
you are close enough to Quantico to go visit Milprelib,
depending on what type of shooting you are planning,, (whistle pig hunting, paper at 300+ , hi power comps etc etc) you may benefit visiting Quantico when VFEMI is practicing and chatting up some of the folks on what they are shooting,
Hey, not to be left out I always have an opinion....why? aR's are so much fun when they go bang, bang, with minimal effort on my part
