I have a Savage mod 10 FP-SR in 308 and so far I've had no luck in getting a load to work. Hodgdon Varget has always been good to me but it's letting me down this time. Since 168s are like hens teeth around here, I tried 165 Sierra HPBT and various charges of Varget with no good groups. Any ideas?

43.5 gr. IMR 4895 pushing a 168 gr. SMK's is a classic Bolt Action accuracy load.

I use 41.5 gr. IMR 4895 with 168 gr. SMK's in my M1A and have yet to find anything better.

Also, 39.5 gr. IMR3031 with the 168 gr. Sierra Match Kings is a duplication of the Federal Gold Match ammo

This is a great site with lots to read and reloading info to use and play with. There is also a very useful Sierra load map available for the .308 and other rounds listed to the left. Sorry to link instead of instruct. I would only be repeating the info and there are a lot of variables to get to the one load you're more likely to use. Even if you only have the one powder and one weight bullet to use, reload 6 to 10 rounds from the suggested starting grain to the max suggested and find your sweet spot for the range you're comfortable and shoot regularily to.
