How to tell if you have light ball or heavy ball I have a 440 case of Albanian marked on bottom of shell 88 over 3 .

If the spam can is marked in cyrillic letters, "лпс" or "лп" would denote light ball steel core or non steel core ("legkoy puley stahl" or "legkoy puley"), and if I'm not mistaken, just "пс" or "п" would denote steel core heavy ball and non-steel core heavy ball respectively.

I once asked what some "baby poop yellow" tipped ammo I had was and learned it was heavy ball.
The Russian silvertip is what a lot of us like and buy in tins.

Hmmmm...well, I don't believe that heavyball ammo is ONLY delineated by a yellow tip...just sayin...

I have Yugo Heavy Ball that has NO colored tip...just my two cents...

I have some 7.62x54R from Hungary. The top of the tin has a strip of silver paint and a strip of yellow paint.

The tip of the bullet has sliver paint over yellow paint. Is this heavy or light????

According to what I've read, the Hungarian silver/yellow tip is heavy ball steel core.

Based on the date I'd say it's light ball. I've never seen Albanian heavy ball. Did they ever manufacture any heavy ball?
