Well, it happened again. I have been collecting for many years without acquiring a late date M39. I picked up a 1967 recently from Empire Arms and I was happy with that. Well, thanks to a forum member I now have a 1968 to go with it. Antique, so that made the transfer easy. It turns out the seller was local to me so a short drive and a cash exchange, and now I have two. I took my wife out for a nice mother's day lunch so she did not mind riding out with me to pick it up. Good day all around.

This thread seems to have been pretty well forgotten recently. Check it out:

There is pretty well everything there you asked about. Hard to believe it has been almost 10 years since I posted it.

As for it's contents, there may be a couple of entries that I could make that would narrow down the years of production data,, but not many. The big thing that would change is the total number of entries in my database. It's up to 13480 entries now. There is seldom a day goes by that I don't enter at least one - mostly off Gunbroker.

As for the late date 39's, 300006 was reported by a member here 2/22/2011. The highest was 306472. I'm betting that the late dates have the highest percentage left of any model. I have 592 entries That's approaching 10%.

As for the Sk.Y 39's, the lowest was 500003 by the same member. The highest was 510810.
Here is a little more information for you and maybe you can educate me on my rifle. My M-39 was purchased 10/28/05, sn 40637 SA marked 1942 barrel plum colored barrel also B marked barrel. If you want or need any more information please let me know, I always like to know more about what I have!
Sorry, I can't help you. That is a new number in my database.

This doesn't make sense. A "B" barrel shouldn't be marked Sk.Y. Can you post a picture of the barrel shank? The only m/39's that are Sk.Y marked should be number between 500000 & ~510000. The only other Sk.Y marked ones are the m/28-30's and should be dated 1934 to 1940. A few are undated, but very few. They should be numbered from ~30017 to 72500+. Something here just doesn't fit.

Could you please start your own post to discuss your rifle? No offence meant but its the polite thing to do.

I don't think you necessarily stepped on anyone's toes but by burying your question and pictures concerning your rather nice B barrel M39 on the 2nd page of a post about Late Date M39's you make it harder for interested collectors to see it. If you make your own post with "looking for info on my B Barrel M39" in the topic header more people will likely see it and respond. It also makes it easier for the post to show up in searches so other collectors can easily find it as they search for info on similar rifles.

I agree with the above posts. I think it would be nice if an administrator would move the posts that are inappropriate to a new thread. I've seen this done on other forums.

As for the Sk.Y..............I don't see it. The rifle just appears to be a normal "B" barrel m/39.

Are you seeing all the pictures? The barrel is marked with sky

Are you talking about the SA stamp? SA and SKY are not the same. SA stands for the Finnish Army(Suomen Armeija) and SKY stands for the Finnish Civil Guard (Suojeluskuntain Yliesikunta) Your rifle was assembled post WW2 by the Finnish Army and has no connection to the Civil Guard.

I see now what you are talking about the picture I was referring to was the side of the barrel forward of the receiver and it is stamped AY1 not Sk.Y ,like I thought ,when I first posted to ole Fred, I was trying to help him with his SN. data base then he asked for pictures.I know it's a post war put together. When I saw the M-39 thread I thought my remarks would fit in.Now if some one could tell me what the numbers on the tang stand for what year that would be helpful.Next time I will start my own thread like some have suggested which I have done in the past on other subjects.Thank you all for your time dealing with an M-39 novice !

The AV1 stamp stands for Finnish weapons depot #1 located in Helsinki, that's likely where the rifle was assembled. The 96 stamp with the arrow on the tang means your rifles receiver was made in 1896 at the Russian Sestroryetsk arsenal near St Petersburg.

Thank you for the additional information, interesting! Hope you have a nice quiet Memorial day week end.

The last serial number in the database, 306477, is dated 1970. I have heard of rifles dated 1971, 1972, and even possibly 1973. Does anybody have a confirmed sighting, with photo, of a post-1970 late date?

Old Fred:
I'll look up the numbers on my five 1967-1970 rifles so you can see if they are in your database.
Does anyone know what value a Mosin revolver used in the Olympics, held in some part of Europe is worth
