I understand that this was tested for the Krag cartridge, and am digging for more in-depth info besides the generally held knowledge that trajectory was very flat, and accuracy was very bad....

They still make them, albeit slightly improved... The Generic name is a "Ring Airfoil Bullet" http://yarchive.net/gun/ammo/cyclone.html mainly instead of just having a hole thru the bullet, the hole is contoured like an airfoil... has a similar effect as a frisbee or those http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6220918.html throwing toys.

Various sizes have been tried, the biggest that I have heard of was about 350mm and had the insides lined with solid fuel ... the .45 APC round could penetrate the side of a M113 from a pistol... on soft targets the bullet didn't actually touch the target .. the shock wave created by the airfoil effect made about a golf ball size hole.

Thanks, AmmoSgt. I have added UseNet to my favorites, looks like there is some good stuff there. Was looking at getting accuracy out of it for some of the small-cartridge apps. I can forsee some lathe time in my future on this one...
