I am getting a reproduction stock made up for a Kar 98a project of mine. The receiver is a 1915 Erfurt. My question is what would the appropriate features of the stock be? Would there be a takedown disk? Would there be finger grooves? The stock will be made from Beech.

Are you sure that's the date? Amberg did not produce Kar98s in 1915, but when they stopped in ~1910 it was long before takedown lugs and finger grooves were added. However, since your stock is going to be beech, which didn't appear until 1916 for the most part, you could put technically anything you want on it since the beech stock would be a wartime replacement for an early Amberg. I've seen a Spandau 1909 Kar98 with a beech replacement stock with fingergrooves and lug.

Here is a picture of what an Amberg should look like though. It's a 1910 Danzig but they would have looked the same.

The stock looks like someone cut down a military stock to a sporter. The gun has little value to strictly military collectors, and its worth as a shooter depends on condition, accuracy and what guns sell for locally.

Receiver, rear base, front base, barrel contour, buttplate, and bolt all tell me that it is indeed a 98a. IF you can find a complete stock, stacking hook and retainer, bayonet lug, and barrel bands you could reassemble the rifle into original configuration. It is no small feat, mind you, to find all these parts. It took me a year and a lot of poking around to find folks with the requisite parts. In fact, I am still looking for a front band hinge screw if anyone has got one.

Possibly a bring-back rifle (by a soldier returning from overseas) hard to say really,at any rate it is a cut-down military issue 1898 mauser, value is a bit hard to determine but I can say cut down rifles such as yours currently seem to sell for around NZ $300-400 if the barrel is still in decent shape.Basically its worth something to a hunter or shooter looking for a rifle to customise, but of not much interest to a collector.
