Just an 870.

I bought this 870 Express Magnum about 20 years ago for the price of $275.00. The shop had it listed for $300.00 but was having a sale at the time. It had the black synthetic stocks and a matte finish that I just fell in love with. The finish I loved....the furniture I hated. A little dickering and I walked out the door with my brand new pride and joy for $260.00...plus tax.
This shotgun has treated me better than I have treated it. Pick up truck gun, back up deer gun, blasting away at pins, milk jugs and what not at the range... I still hated the stocks as the rubber butt plate got caught on my coat, jacket, t-shirt, arm pit....you get the idea. I put the gun away in the safe and sort of forgot about it until a nice ribbed barrel came my way with the same finish as was on my gun and a turkey choke to boot. Time to re-investigate my gun.....
Anyway....long story short.....Took the plastic stocks off and sold them to buy a NOS walnut stock set on e-bay, made my own butt plate out of hard black plastic and ..bam... the shotgun I've always wanted .
Hope you like the photo...and the gun.
Thanks for looking.
Mark

Nice gun and combo -- a coupla extra chokes and you've got yourself one helluva versatile setup.
A thing of beauty and a joy forever.

Nothing wrong with "just an 870".
Good, solid shotgun. about as reliable as gravity.

I have a Wingmaster that I won in a raffle a decade or so ago, nothing fancy and seldom used just because my favorite bird hunting cannon is a Belgian A-5 that is also, about as reliable as gravity. Where I live, I deer hunt with a rifle, so she's out of that "back-up" role.

Thanks for the compliments Gentlemen. I just love those smooth walnut stocks....no frills...just practical for me. I have an 1100 that's been arounfdthe blocks a few times but never fails me. I also will be posting a Spanish double that I'm having troble locating information on. It'll be this weekend...hope I can find some answers.
Thanks Again.

I would love to find a set like that myself to replace the damaged 1967-vintage wood that was on my former police shotgun.

Right now I have Civilian wood from the 1970s, its not bad, but its just a bit too, well, 70s for me.
