Hi,
I just picked up a Japanese sword and would like to know what type it is, and what the markings stand for? The condition appears to be fairly decent, with the usual wear one would find on an item of this vintage. I'm curious to know what type of sword this is, who made it, and approximately what year? There are matching numbers on the blade and scabbard. Thank you in advance for your responses.
Mike

Type 95 NCO, mfg by Iijima. Left hand mark. Tokyo first inspector center mark, and Kokura Arsenal right hand mark. Production began in September, 1935. These went through several changes in the nine plus years they were produced. Yours has all earlier features, so maybe made, around 1938-40?
