I just picked this nice Japanese Type I Rifle Cleaning Kit. I never seen one of these and with google search only found one example. Are these hard to come by? Also, believe it may be missing 1 or 2 pieces but not sure. Writing on the back but hard to see. There was a firing pin that was also in the bag, is it for the Type I Rifle? Thanks for any information you can provide about this.

Regards, David.

That's a firing pin spring guide for a T-14 pistol
Dang, I had a mint & complete one of these Type I kits when I was a teenager back in the late '60s. Don't even recall when I sold it. MROJ shows one of these.

Why/how is a Type I kit different from a T 38 kit?

Think first, post second; I guess it is the wooden guide that is different, duh!

Hello 03man :

Besides the wooden guide is the canvas bag, the sewing line is down the middle and the buckle strap is riveted on with shiny rivets. The other components are common Type - 38 rod extensions, jagg tip. and bore brush with protector.

Also, a red tipped what?
Tompion - These were used in the Civil War before they had muzzle covers. It's a wood plug that is inserted at the muzzle. For some reason these kits had one of them in it with a red painted end. You can see it in MROJ even though the photo is in B&W.
