It's clear that all 98k's, including RCs, are trending up, and I'm a big believer in "it's worth what the market will bear," but this is still an oddball market spike. No way that particular RC should fetch more than, say, $450, and that's at the high end. Good for the seller, but yikes.

Granted, kinda high and over the top.

However, the trend is RC are gaining in value which pushes other collector correct 98K higher in value.

RC are for the most part gone from the importers shelves, supply is down and demand is going up. With their
obvious history of Eastern Front, the future of their being worth having in a collection is obvious to me.

I think its time the purist 98K crowd made a little room for the RC Mausers

The supply from oversea's is THERE....but in the last couple of years European $$$ have taken the supply--I suspect in the next year+/- we will see more. An oversea's loss for a local importer was tragic, but the RC's will be coming---Time is on our side, as long as the political arena does'nt change up the importation of old military weapons--which I feel is on the horizon if the "second term" happens.

I am told by shooters/collectors in Europe that milsurp rifles being antiques there, have
allowed a relaxed gun ownership situation and demand then for such rifles (RC for example) is up.

That prices for these weapons is higher in Europe allows distributors more profit quicker than shipping
here for lower profits and delays with our ATF / customs.

One prominent Enfield vendor told me the reason I can't find a lot of great No.4 rifles today is they are
being bought up here and shipped back to UK where profits selling them are significant. He won't sell
me one as he loses too much money. He buys and ships them to UK.

I would like to see more RC come in as Boltactionsforever predicts and hope he is right. My gut tells me
his prediction is pie in the sky. I think one should buy now and not wait for some bonanza coming over the rain bow.

Anyhow at my age, I ain't waiting ... I get it now and have it. I got all the time there is but I don't have a clue
how much that really is.

Ugh, I don't get it...I wouldn't give more than $250 for that thing.....still looks like an ugly RC to me...

As BiO said, the seller is probably doing cartwheels...I think the buyer should have his head examined, but to each their own!

Personally the $300-$400 price range for a very nice RARE coded RC example is "fair" in todays current supply in my area. Common ones that are in the under average condition I still see as $250+/- examples..nothing more.

Heck I'm still finding correct bnz single rune marked RC examples for the $300 +/- price range every now and then.

Gun shows in my area still have plenty examples for buyers---most are $100 or so overpriced IMO--but they as there for the buyers... Definately not for the price the above example sold for!

Some or a lot more new enthusiastic newbi's are the buyers, also cause to jacking up the price for RC. I remeber back in 1991 at LAC Pomona Fair I bought bnz 42 for $400 A/M, dealer, even gave free sight hood!

Not all RCs are selling for such high prices, but the overpriced ones get all the attention. The last 2 RCs I bought were in the $250-275 range. One was a reworked GEW98 to K98k specs, and I don't remember the code on the other, but they were just average-condition RCs. Prices are trending up on everything, not just RCs, but that's normal, especially when the big wholesalers are out of them. Remember when Soviet M44s were $39 a few years ago?

There were several at a local MA show this past weekend, as I was told by friends, from $550-$850. The $850 one I think was a true bolt MM. Some codes were '38 S/237, '38-S/42, byf-43, AR-41, SVW-45, bcd45, byf-41, bcd-4, DOT-43, DOT-44...they had been cleaned up a little.

I was at a local show this past weekend and only saw 2 in the whole place. Not sure if they were RC's or just parts guns they were too cobbled looking to waste more than a passing glance. One that was marked $750 had a stock that was almost black with either shellac or oil that looked like a tank ran over the butt. Quick glance at the receiver showed it to be a S/42G with complete mismatch of #'s and milled/stamped parts. The other was better priced at $450 but looked to be reblued with a VERY bad repro stock. There was a pretty interesting Gew98 ("transitional model" as it was labeled) but it had a cracked stock and that was in the 400 range as well. These rifles are getting rather pricey lately

Only found ONE RC at each of two very Large Gun shows down here in SW FL. over the past couple months. One at each show and they were both priced at what most people on this forum would consider very reasonable prices , Bought both , one for $300 and another for $350 though asking prices were about $75 more on each. Those are the only two RCs I've seen in these parts over the past year and I get to a lot of stores.
