Let's assume for a second that it doesn't look like a pigeon and it isn't a Numerich stamp. What would it be then? It isn't an inspection stamp, no WaA or Kru etc. It isn't a branch of service mark, no H, L, or M.
Bob in OH has put together a CD with good examples of K98 markings. It also has a lot of other info too. It's an excellent reference for detecting fakes. I can't find the link to his website at the moment, but I think he will see this post and provide the link.
I have a Romanian coneract VZ24 with a RR ser. It is a non import and has an eagle too but looks different. After reading this thread i looked and there it was, I didn't notice till than.
Post a better pic of your bird. From what I can see, it looks fake too. As Hambone pointed out, an eagle stamp without an inspectors stamp or branch of service indication is bogus. It looks more like the work of a huckster.
