I bought this rifle from guy who thought it was built in the 60's. Is the stock original to the rifle? Also, were some parts of the bolt originally plummed? Last, what goes on the nut in front of the trigger guard?

This is a great gun. It shoots better than I do...

Kinda like finding a full set of hens teeth....

Well, from what information I have...(which is very little) No production was shown for a L46LS It does show production for the L46ALS, it was produced in 1938 with a production run of 55... LS stands for Lyman sights 57MS rear peep and 17A front. Production for the standard model L46 was 375 in 1937 and 24 in 1939 with 4 produced for Monkey Wards in 1938. Looks like the original NRA type stock and the bolts were originally chromed, and the nut in front of the trigger guard locks the stock to the receiver along with the barrel band at the front of the stock... It's just a wild guess, but you probably paid about 1/4 to 1/2 of what it is probably worth...

You're right, it's an ALS (minor brain fart). I'll have to take a look at it when I get home to see what's plum color (work on Turkey Day ). I paid $300 for it. I was just looking for a left-handed bolt action after a used semi-auto Savage Stevens frustrated the he!! out of me (I got back it it though, the barrel's full of lead and it's used for hunter safety training). Thanks for the info!
