I've come across a '37 Tula that has not been refurbished with correct pre-war stock (no reburb markings anywhere on metal or stock and it's pretty beat up) and has no import markings. Nice so far... Although there are no refurb markings or indications of refurbing the serial numbers don't match. AND most interestingly the MN is equiped with the Finn type swivels but there are no typical Finn markings no be found anywhere? Any ideas?...are there Finn NMs that don't have any Finn markings?? Or this this a total parts gun (seems not to be though). Sorry but I don't have any pics to put up yet. Your opinions or thoughts?

Photos would help. Are you sure they are Finnish specific hangers or just wire hangers? It could be Spanish Civil War if they aren't Finnish hangers. It is possible to have Finnish rifles that didn't get marked, but it seems a bit unlikely. See if your rifle has any of the features on my site.

Are you sure it does not have import marks? SCW Mosins are usually marked "MADE IN USSR" or "MADE IN URRS" (mispelled). It's possible it missed being marked with the import stamps, but that would be a fluke. The Finn style swivels have been available from parts dealers; it could have been added after it was brought into the country. You say it's pretty beat up - another possibility is a bring-back. I'm curious, but all we can get are guesses without photos.

A good percentage of apparent SCW guns do not have the "Made in USSR/URRS" stamp. Typical sling swivels, Spanish cleaning rods, MP 8 flaming bomb are all features that can be found on otherwise non-import marked guns.

The vast majority of SCW rifles aren't marked with the "USSR/URRS" mark. Out of the 4 SCW rifles I own only 1 is marked in this way.

It would seem unlikely that, if Finnish, it somehow missed being marked in any way by the Finns and then also happened to be part of the early imports without a mark. It's possible, but I'm leaning towards Spanish based on the information at hand. Photos will be the only surefire way to tell, of course. Looking forward to seeing some!
