I think he is referring to the stamp above the erfurt, that looks like the crown that is stamped above Spandau Gew98's - at least its on my Spandau G98.

If it is that crown with the small cross, maybe it was added later on during a refurb/upgrade. I see that it is 'S' stamped which would denote a 1905(?) upgrade to the spitzer round.

The Erfurt and date do look odd to me though. The font doesn't look quite right.

The rifle clearly does not have the 05 update, and that is not what the s means .
No? And what does "S" mean then? (Hint: what is spitzgeschoß and what is the first letter in that word?) And what exactly constitutes a 1905 update?

lol,this is getting comical

first,,,Alamo didnt difinitively say that the S meant that it was a 05 upgraded rifle,he put the question mark right after the sentance

so knowone said thats what the S denotes so there is no argument there

then Nick posed the question to Alamo what makes a 05 upgraded and my 3 guesses were the stripper guides, receiver notch, and the magazine alterations which consisted of the enblock button release removal and the mag block insert installed

My question was 100% rhetorical and was addressed to bobntx. I know what was done when. Magazine alterations were not related to the "S" conversion, but to the change in loading. All this is described in detail in Hans-Dieter Gotz's book as well as in Paul Scarlata's book. Also in Eckard & Morawietz' book - if you can find it (I consider this one the primary source).
