Hey everyone. I'm new to Mausers but not new to gunsmithing. I recently acquire an M24/47 for free. The steel is in very rough shape deeply pitted below the stock line. I ordered a brand new M48 barrel from wideners. I plan on trying to grind the action out and the little bit of pitting where the bolt handle meets the bolt body.

My question being, if I can't grind the pitting out, what receivers may be interchangeable and where can I find them? Thanks

Sounds like my free horse that I now have several thousand invested in. The Yugoslav Model 1924's (FN or Kragujevac made) or the Yugo M48 and M48A receivers would be the right length for the stock and bolt. The VZ 24's are too long. If you buy a receiver or barreled receiver with a bad bore from an action site, or at a show, at least you can evaluate the under the woodline pitting.

Thanks for the info. Is it also safe to say that the stocks for the FN24, FN, Yugo 24, 24/47, 48, & 48A are all the same?

The 1924's and 48's had different bands,sling attachments.

The Model 48's were influenced by the Yugoslav experience with captured German K98k bands and sling attachment style.

Will bands from either work? I see the k98 stocks have the attachment in the stock where the 24 uses the screwed in ring with the hoop on the bottom of the stock.

Actually I shouldve asked if the barreled actions from a 24 wwill fit into any of those stocks? Or if it's specific to a 24.

If it was free, I wouldn't worry about fixing it up unless the bore is bad. If it is, I'd just trade it for another 24/47.

That's not the point. I enjoy doing this as my hobby and I probably will buy another 24/47 eventually.
