Depends if you have a Q/D clip or not ? With Q/D clip , it goes in the long loop of the sling with the open side of the clip out at the rear and the short loop to the front with the short side in . Flat side of the brass button to the inside .

With out the Q/D clip , the short loop goes to the rear & long loop to the front .

Although....the Swedish soldiers themselves seem to have been a little inconsistent in how they installed their slings.
If one browses through Crown Jewels, one will find pictures of slings installed both ways round, in real life.

However, the official instructions, as reproduced on page 271, do instruct the soldier to install the non-adjustable, short end of the sling on the back ring.

The Q/D clip was adopted during WW2 . So , originally your rifle did not use the clip , but if used in service anytime after WW2 , it would have the clip . More than likely it was used in service after WW2 !!!!!!!! Just a matter of preference for you .
