I acquired a stripped one of these due to the supplier grabbing one from the wrong pile. He is sending me another L1A1 example so all is good.

However, I was intrigued by the way this Indian lower was built. The retainer looks very much like the one on an L1A1, and the rear of the receiver looks pretty close to a metric. Are these essentially inch pattern with a metric rear, or are there more differences. Will these lowers work on regular Imbel DSA and Century lowers or are they sufficiently different that the gun either does not function or is permanently full-auto.

You're correct in that the Indian rifle is a copy of both the inch and metric patterns. They didn't want to pay the royalties demanded and purchase manuf. tooling from FN so the Indians purchased both inch and metric examples and used them to "reverse engineer" a working set of prints. The end product was a true FrankenFAL. Good idea to send that lower back in exchange for a proper L1A1 or SLR. Word is that Indian parts are not fully interchangeable with either inch or metric bits from any other country. Better safe than sorry!
