The Croft State Park Rifle Range is run by Wayne Smith, Ranger. Just mention "black powder" and you're in for one of the best conversation/demonstrations you could find. Wayne will pull out patched bullets that he seats by hand in a 45/70 case...perfectly flared and sized. He runs a water soluble oil patch after each shot and his after-shooting cleaning procedure is an art project. He can talk knowledgeably about all aspects...and loves to do it. Last time, it was 26 degrees and the wind was howling. We stood out there and jabbered until our lips got so cold we couldn't form understandable words.

Wayne is one of a number of smoke-polers who shoot at the range...usually 200 yards...or 15 yards for pistols. Great guy, great range.
