I just bought this cool bayonet manufactured by WKC of Solingen and it is unit-marked. It has three great markings below the spring button on the pommel, which has that distinctive "rocking chair" shape, and the complementary jig-saw puzzle shape of the wooden handles. It does not have a barrel ring. The problem is that the spine of the blade has a nice imperial cypher "W" - with the year 87 below it. How can that be as the 84/98 models were (I thought!) by definition, manufactured after 1898?
