I need help identifying this 1924 Mauser so I can order a replacement bolt assembly, since I can't figure out the safety issue. Here are a few pics to go by. Fabrica De Armas in circular pattern around what looks like a crown, above Oviedo, above date of 1924. It is a 7mm. I believe it to be a Spanish mauser. But some of the features and the date don't add up. Here are some pics. See what you think. Thanks.

It appears that somebody has messed with the bolt - the 1893 Spanish Mauser should have a straight bolt handle, not bent. Also, the second photo appears that the end of the barrel has been cut off and rifle shortened to the wood stock end. Definately judging by the rear site assembly the rifle started as a Spanish 1893 Mauser.

Model 1893 Spanish Long-Rfle, made in Spain at the Oviedo arsenal, in the 1920's. Subsequently, cut down by Bubba, somewhere US-Stateside. It's worth less than $100, even without problems with the safety, so don't spend much on another bolt assembly. Usually, any issues with the safety can be fixed by working with, or replacing the safety and/or cocking-piece, and ocassionally the bolt-shroud as well. You likely don't need a complete bolt assembly.

This is the best site I know of for identifying Spanish Mausers: http://www.geocities.com/fritz125541/Spanmauhome

Yours appears to have been an 1893 Rifle, retrofitted with the 1916-style gas relief port during an arsenal rebuild in Spain. Bubba shortened it to resemble an 1895 Carbine but left the rifle rear sight and bent the rifle-style straight bolt. Your post doesn't specify what safety issue you are addressing, so good luck figuring that out. If it is excessive headspace, that can usually be corrected by swapping stripped bolt bodies until one doesn't close on a 257 Roberts Field gauge. To the best of my knowledge there are no actual 1893 Mauser mil-spec headspace gauges to be had. rr2241tx

the rifle is 2n7485 (you were correct) and the second digit on the bolt could not be read. I think it could be a T,I, or J. It is 2_8733. It is just part of a line going top to bottom, but centered between the numbers.

I'm going to order a new cockimg piece this weekend from Numrich gun parts and try that first. Will post results. I needed stripper clips for my Mosin 91/30 also, so I'll get them all there.

Thanks guys.
