Anyone recognize this pouch? I believe it is German, but not sure. Looks a bit different than the ones most commonly seen, no curve to the pouch. Only mark is the "98 R" between the belt loops and "Musketier / Heckhoft" on the label in the cover. Holds 20 cartridges and looks like it may be an altered pouch. Pretty common I believe, but I'm a real dummy when it comes to these....

Yes, German. As Gus says it is a M1874/87. Marked to Metzer Infanterie-Regiment Nr.98 based in Metz. The 98th was a part of the XVI Armee Korps. And as Bayonetcollector says "Musketier" is a proper German title.

It is a fairly common pouch but most are marked to Württemberg regiments and this one is not, it is a good find. Mike, as you noticed, it has been modified from the straight M74 configuration which had belt loops above the box. Unmodified pouches are very hard to find.
