Well here’s the story. I have been buying up mausers for a few years because lets face it, they're just the coolest damn things ever. I love finding these rifles and researching the history behind them. One thing I have always wanted to do though was take a mauser deer hunting. My only dilemma was that i didn't yet have a scoped mauser, most of my guns, save one G98, are military stock. Knowing that it is more or less a sacrilege to cut up a nice stock German, Spanish or Czech military mauser to make a sporter I set out to find a good Turk to build into a deer gun. In the process of looking for such a gun, however, I came across this sporter .30-06 mauser. I have to say it has made a fine deer rifle and another fun mauser to go out and bang around with. My only dilemma with this gun is that in the 6 months I have had it I don't know what it started out as with 100% certainty. I think it may have Czech or polish origins but I don't really know and would love it if one of you smart people would be willing to tell me what I have.

The markings on the left side of the receiver read: B 6234 and then B inside a circle

There are no markings, numbers or insignias on the top of the receiver what so ever.

on the right side of the receiver under the stock there is what looks like an "n" next to a "+"

on the bolt/firing pin are the numbers 99 and a "o", and on the safety "mark II" (This safety is after market and was probably put on so that it could be used with the scope)

On the bottom of the receiver inside the stock is the number 44 and by the magazine is the letter "N"

The barrel on the gun reads :
CENTURY INT’L. ARMS
30-06 ST. ALBANS. VT. USA

Thanks for your help

Brazilian M1908 then M1908/34 then Possibly M954...

The Brazilian M954 was a 30/06 version of the earlier M1908/34 which were Brazilian reworked(shortened) Long DWM M1908 Contract rifles.
Originally in 7x57 Mauser, they were rebuilt in the 1950s to use .30/06, which Brazil had adopted after sending a Battalion with US Forces in 1943( Invasion of Italy)...the calibre change began about the 1950s, when Brazil accepted a lot of US Mil Aid.

If the rifle is still in good (other than the attached scope mount),condition, it should be a fine sporting gun. No collector value if D&T etc. Also, given that it still has the original "German" style serial, it is an early conversion to 30/06 ( M 08/34-.30) as the M954 had a completely NEW serial number, no letters.

Action is DWM of Berlin. One of the finest pre-WW I Gun makers, along with Mauser of Oberndorf ( both owned by the same Holding Co.).

Ditto.
Brazilian Model 1908 Receiver. But, the Cocking-piece appears to be from a model 1909 Argentine. Looks like Century pieced together a bunch of loose parts to make a "Sporter" model.

Fence_Post_Collector, I have moved this to this forum, you will get some more ideas about your rifle here. Enjoy the rifle as it is, it will answer your requirements for a hunting rifle very well.

Well I am sorry you didn't think this belonged in the "military mauser forum". This gun started out its life as a "military mauser" and i was looking for information on its "military history". Thanks to the experts on mausers that reside in the "military mauser forum" I now have the information I need, and to these people i must say thank you....
