I have been a naturalist my whole collection "career" but I came across a rifle today that plucked every heartstring it could reach. I was in a local gunshop and just chatting with the owner who told me he had received a mas36 that had been sporterized by an old polish gunsmith that use to work in my town (probably a 40yo+ sporty).

First, I love French!! Second, I love "big builds". So what could be better then finding a mas 36 with a 1919 barrel on it, rechambered to 7.62, with lyman front sight and what I think is a m1 carbine rear sight.

I hate to admit it but I broke down and bought the gun off of him despite all my better judgement. I gave, what I think, was a more then fair price of $250 for the gun.

I can't wait to shoot this puppy!

Sometimes I get wild and crazy ideas. Like a single shot marlin 336 with a chopped 1919A4 7.62 bbl cut two inches and rechambered for 30-30. And a semi custom forend attached to the bbl. If the bore is good on that puppy I think you are in for a treat. Recoil won't be a problem with that tube hanging off the receiver. Have fun, darn the expense. Frank

That sounds like a heck of a gun. Yeah, the bore is good. I doubt, also, recoil will be an issue at all. I'm pretty happy with this gun

I plan on getting it out this weekend. I may end up scoping it but I want to see how far I can reach out with open sights
