I detail striped my M-48 Mauser bolt with the help of Surplus rifle web site, I was scared to death because it was not the simple bolt of the Mosin Nagant that I am used to, but it came apart and went back together without a hitch, I even had to do the re-cocking procedure to get the bolt back in, Man oh man was that thing filled with cosmo, none of my rifles ever had that much cosmo in them the bolt was full of the stuff.

One question I have is, why is the cleaning rod so darn short???

Jack,

I believe that most of these mauser rods were designed to be coupled together to make a full length rod. I know on the k98's, the top of each rod is threaded so that another soldier's...ahem, rod ;) could be attached for cleaning. Wow, this 'rod' discussion could get sideways real quick!! :)
