No, actually, the forearm checkering on the 4000/4100/7000 is a N-A thing, the non checkered forearms are either 1600 or a 1640, or if your prefer, a Euro model

The H-5000 is supposed to have forearm checkering too.
Check out Simpson Ltd site, you'll see that most 1640 with the schnabel stock have no forearm checkering, these are 1600 and 1640 Std - by far the most common Euro model. Those with the forearm checkering are the Lyx and other higher grade models. The less expensive ones even came without checkering at all....

I have long owned a Husky 5000 in .270. Slick rifle. Good for carrying while hunting. As you guys know, it has forarm checkering.

I agree, but it's quite easy to make the difference and this shouldn't be an issue here (to my POV anyways)

i own both..
sold the husky 5000 in 270...with peep (keeping the 7 mag, two 243's).
buying 30 Cals. mostly to consolidate! (during Clinton confusions shortages)
still a good move today same problems,
just not mine!
