http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/...apitol-in-protest-in-an-undisclosed-location/

This story is written and reported by Jason Clayworth and Jason Noble.

Iowa House Democrats this morning left the Capitol in protest of two gun bills the Republican majority had planned to debate today that critics contend would make the state part of the “Wild, Wild West.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy accused House Leader Linda Upmeyer of failing to properly inform legislators about planned debate today on the bills. The short notice hindered Democrats from offering amendments to improve the bills, McCarthy said.

But Upmeyer, R-Garner, shot back this morning that Democrats did have adequate warning, and suggested their flight from the Capitol was an attempt to make a political scene.

“Iowans didn’t send us down here just to do easy stuff,” she said. “The Second Amendment is a question that many Iowans would like placed before them. I don’t know why they’re afraid to have a debate on a subject just because they don’t like the subject. That seems ludicrous to me.”

One bill would alter the state constitution to specifically include gun rights. Another would rewrite the law on “reasonable force” so that a person may use force — including deadly force — against someone who they believe threatens to kill or cause serious injury or who is committing a violent felony.

“(Upmeyer) said they will debate those bills today whether we like it or not,” said McCarthy, D-Des Moines. “I told her that we’ve been double crossed, and we will not be debating those bills today.”

In response, Democrats have moved to an undisclosed location. Republicans hold 60 of 100 seats and could debate the bill without Democrats since they have a quorum. The majority party sets the calendar for debate and guides the course of business on the House floor. ... cont.

*Who is the enemy and what is the agenda? Seems pretty clear ...

Legislators abandoning their posts (just like the Wisconsin Demoncrat Senators did last year) is, in my opinion, a crime that should be punishible by IMMEDIATE REMOVAL FROM OFFICE FOR FAILURE TO EXECUTE ONE'S SWORN DUTIES AS AN ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PEOPLE. Just my humble opinion, but it's RANK COWARDICE and should not be tolerated by ANYONE!

I'd have the Republicans, since they have a quorum, go ahead with the process, have the debate without the Dems and put the bill up for a vote. SCREW THEM IF THEY DON'T WANT TO DO THEIR JOBS!

We didn't do anything to our 14 COWARDLY SWINE in Wisconsin ... I wish we would have, but then I've often been accused of being a real HARD A$$!

I think when the cowards choose not to participate, as with Wisconsin last year, the remaining reps should be allowed to call a vote and pass the legislation. If the people who fleed bitch about it then they need to be reminded who stayed and who ran.

About 10 years ago Dems in the Texas House of Reps boarded buses and hid out in Oklahoma for a week or so. I don't remember what the brou-ha-ha was about but I think it was redistricting. In the end the Dems lost. At the next election cycle, the majority of those folks were thrown out of office. In Texas we can tollerate a difference in opinions but we don't like cowards who run away.

They claimed they didn't know the bills were going up for debate.. I guess the house Dems should subscribe to the mailing lists for the Iowa Firearms Coalition or Iowa Gun Owners. Because both of those organizations notified their supporters that debates on these bills were happening yesterday.

It was a tantrum.

I observe a common theme here...one group is always running away. That is an excellent way to deal with problems. If something gets hard just cry foul play and quit. Maybe this is why marriage and the family is in such decay in this country.

Grow up democrats.
