As a voter who strongly supports the Second Amendment, I try to remain vigilant to strong-arm tactics that diminish my rights. It looks like Senator Dianne Feinstein – who is known for her quest to keep guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens – is taking a back-door approach to banning the import of certain firearms. This time she wants you, her fellow Senator, to sign a letter asking President Obama to circumvent legislative and procedural processes, and take matters into his own hands.

The target of her wrath are what she calls “assault weapons” and “military-style rifles” that are not “generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes.”

The logic is lost in the language. Instead of banning firearms because of their characteristics, why isn’t she directing her efforts on the criminals who misuse them?

As you know, an import ban of semi-automatic rifles that use magazines originally designed for military rifles is already in place. But Senator Feinstein wants to take it one step further by banning semi-automatic rifles used for sport. If she’s successful, she will likely attempt to take another step, then another, until guns are banned completely.

Saying “guns don’t kill, people do,” may be cliché, but it’s the truth. You cannot eliminate derelict behavior by destroying every U.S. citizen’s Second Amendment rights.

I am asking you to oppose Senator Feinstein’s intent, by refusing to sign her letter asking President Obama to take matters into his own hands, and directing the ATF to ban the import of many semi-automatic rifles.

As a tax-paying voter, I demand to be heard.
