First let me say that the rifle can be converted back to full as received with owner tag in 10 minutes. I have the stock, tag, buttplate, etc and can make it original very easy. There was no bluing, drilling holes etc.
I started with a stock from Richard's that was a reject, second or worse, not sure. Anyway, it was the only stock he had that was for a k-31 on hand. When it arrived it had VERY deep mill, and shaping marks left on the outside. IT was also not let for the k-31 properly, ie, it was not a completed let for a drop in. The stock had the rear sling eye bolt drilled off center, and the inside of the letting area was pealing in one place where the laminate had failed. So to say the stock was one from h*** would be putting it mildly. First I had to do extensive work on the letting process. After getting it to fit I discovered the barrel was not centered on the stock at the front.:burp. Sooooooooooo it was necessary to adjust the position of the rifle inside the let area to allow the rifle to be centered. Next I wanted to float the barrel which took some time, and finally do the finish work on the stock its self. That was a job I never want again. The machine that had milled it had left DEEP cutting marks in several areas and left high places in others. Sanding a laminated stock as extensively as this one required was HARD because the material has so much glue in it. It is a hard to sand in my view, as walnut. The black ebony pieces in the front and on the grip were not difficult compared to the remainder of this mess of a stock:mad. I should not really complain I guess as they sold it to me for 89$ delivered. Anyway in some areas I gave up trying to get every little mill mark out, rather chose to get the finish sanding process going. It has 4 coats of low luster 2 part urethane on it and is liquid pumice rubbed for smoothness. I ordered some Swiss decals from a rc boating friend that does decals for boats. I thought it needed something to breakup the black and gray.
Scope is a Pentax, made in usa, whitetails I took off another rifle 3-9x40 mounted on a Brownells clamp on mount. Have yet to shoot it but plan to do so this weekend. Anyway, I also plan to pillar the action too but want to shoot it first and compare those results to it after it is pillared.
Tell me what u think.
