Most of the "A" prefis Hi-Powers usually seen are below serial no. 3000. This one is A15978. The interesting part is it appears tha there is a pre-war Lithuanian proof on the bottom of the grip. Also the slide proofs are on the front part of the slide, instead of above the proofs on the frame. Very unusual.

I would love to know the history behind this pistol.

I just sold a shooter Hi-power only a few digits off of your serial number.

I don't think that they are so rare.

The issue is that some of the reference books don't have well researched information in them. Just a copy of someone else's faulty research.

I have seen a lot of Hi-Powers in the last 40 years. It is unusual to see one that high with an 'A' prefix.

You are correct as to the reference book. Blake Stevens book on the High Power is the best to date. Jan's book on Axis Pistols is fairly good on the WWII versions. Inglis Diamond by Clive Law is an excellent book on the Inglis pistol.

I have Hi-Powers which are not shown in the reference books.
