My high school hired a Marine sargent to give the students PT. He was assigned to oversee a local Reserve unit. (He had a limp and I think he had been given an easy job to round out his years.) Anyhow, be brought around 45 (enough for the biggest class) Garands and bayonets which he stored at the school in a closet. All of the 12 to 15 year old students became very good at close order drill, etc, stripping the rifle, etc. Only a couple of the kids got their thumbs caught. We had to be good because he seemed mean (at the time) when he became displeased and we learned that we did not want to displease him.
