yes, it is insanity.
I don't think I will be able to afford too many more K98s from Gunbroker... Check out this stock mis-match that sold on AA: http://www.auctionarms.com/Search/DisplayItem.cfm?ItemNum=9603076.0
Wow they are some high prices, Both are nice looking guns, but that is matching money plus imo.

just copy the link in the adress bar. ctrl c, ctrl v, for paste.
Well you know what they say there's one born every day! Nice rifle but way over priced for a mismatched! The crown looked buggered !
I don't think the S27 was that over-priced. If that rifle had a matched stock it would be a 3k rifle, so with a correct mismatched stock I think buying it at 50% is acceptable. As for the other one, that seller just seems to get top dollar for everything.

Ryan,

Your calculation and logic is spot on.

I have seen spiffed up RC's sell for around $1K so by comparison $1500 for this S/27 does not seem unreasonable. Doesn't mean I would pay $1500. But I would certainly rather own this S/27 than said RC.

Lucky stiffs. I had a beauty of a bolt m/m on gunbroker for a month and all it drew was $650. Was happy with the price, made money but still boggles my mind at what WILL sell on gunbroker. People with more dollars than sense I say.

mow.
and here I've been wondering how I was gonna afford retirement a few years down the road. I've got several RC's and one YC 98k. I'm set! What I'm amazed at is, not that there's one born every minute, but how'd they get so much money and be so stupid . . . wait a minute are these people from SEIU and using some of BHO's economic stimulus money to get ready for the November elections. They're going to guard the Polling places to insure none of us wild, radical, crazy and hateful Teapartyers attempt to corrupt the congressional elections by casting our votes.

It seems the general concensus is that there is a pecking order for qualified collectible pieces starting at the top with matching, bolt mis-match....and then whatever else. Apparently the stock mm is now considered to be at the same level or higher than a bolt mm, however, I don't think that a couple of auctions justifys as the norm.

Here is a matching by the same maker: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=150104150

I had a matching mint norsky '43 cupped byf walnut stock on a '41 byf near mint rifle that fetched $575 a year ago. That is what I had into it. It is hard to justify the $1500 price just because the maker is harder to find even if both rifles are very comparable.
