Did you follow the Iditarod? How close are you to the trail?

Like they say, it's the last great race on earth. How many folks here would be willing to follow 16 yapping dogs 1100 miles at zero and below temperatures and howling wind day and night with little sleep bouncing along on the back of a sled. I see that Dallas Seavey finished with only 7 dogs. He didn't even know he'd won until they told him. 8 days. 13 hours. 4 minutes. 19 seconds. How many here could even imagine that. BUT, it does fit right in with our Finnish rifles.

Colder and snowy-er winter than usual here has about whipped my butt.
And I'm only outside long enough to clear the driveway ! (A few dozen times though.)
Can only imagine spending many days outside in freezing weather.

Yes.......Well north of Nome, but dead center of "dog" country. Lots of folks in this village lost/won wagers and bets, as gambling to the Arctic is as common as snow.
Dog racing has been going on since someone tie a second dog to a sled and said "Mush!" Better and older than Nascar ~~LOL!!~~

The place we hunt along the Kiwalik river/valley has an old mining town old "Candle" where in 1907 the first sanctioned dog race from Nome to Candle, "The sweepstakes race" occurred.

We're off for your further entertainment allrighty, for a couple weeks in the mountains and still below Zero
