I have recently restored my father's k98 that he brought home from WWII. From my understanding the "AR" stamped on the receiver is the factory id. Does anyone know which factory it is. Also from what I understand the "42" is the year of manufacture. My father duffle cut the stock and tossed the upper barrel peices inorder to get it home. As an officer his bag was never inspected, consequetly the barrel, receiver, bolt and magazine part all have the matching serial # 9128. Can anyone give me some history? I'm try to corrborate my father explaination of how he got the gun. Growing up we used the mauser for deer hunting, its alway been a great shooter.

Thank you Bigdibbs88, I have the original stock, but it is cut in half, my father did a sloppy job of it plus he threw out the forearm guard, the barrel bands and the attached peice of the lower stock. The stock in the pictures is one that I found on the internet, a search that took about five years. It is a WWII german stock, there is an eagle stamp just below the firing pin hole on the bolt handle side.

Interesting... You have a late war button style recoil lug on the stock. What is the proof marking on the right side of the buttstock?
