Ooooo, a white glue laminate! Nice.... With chatter marks. Is the only damage the holes drilled in it or has the forend been chopped off? For the holes you can try some wood filler or wood resin and stain it to match or you can try a sort of dowel/glue repair and stain that to match as well. Those are a few options but if that's the only damage then I would probably just leave it be especially if it matches the rifle. The whole more harm than good thing. I've seen much much much worse butchered collectable stocks....

Btw, what kind of stock is it? Does it match the rifle? Is it standard configuration or semi kriegsmodell? Im using my iPhone so I can't see perfectly clear but I do not see a WaA135 stamp on the right side of the stock....

If you decide to fill the hole, I have had some luck with hiding stock flaws like this by going to the local hobby store and picking up a couple of bottles of Testor's model airplane paint (from their series of military colors, usually) that will do well to match the colors you see in the stock wood. A little patience, and you will have a pretty much undetectable repair.

I have a handguard on a Garand that I did this to, and you can now see no evidence of the ding/knothole that was originally there.

MauserGuy, The rifle ia all matching 44byf in the K block, standard configuration, matching untouched stock and handguard. It does have a WaA 135 on the right side, but very hard to see. The only thing wrong with the rifle is the holes, but i'm very picky on wood and it's killing me!

Hey JH- Would have been nice if the seller had been more forethcoming on the auction description. I looked back at that auction and a $250 adjustment might be in order IMO.... I too would patiently seek out someone with demonstrated skills to fix those holes. Nice gun!

Bob, Hi! I wrote the seller and I did ask for an adjustment of $200.00, waiting for a reply. Do you know anyone that could repair the holes?
Bob is 100% right and with the new information you posted. I too would seek out a professional. I wish I knew someone as I'm still looking for a professional to fix a diffle cut for a nice kid.

CandyMan would be a good guy for the repair but I'm not sure he's repairing stocks anymore.

Well ok, if those holes are really killing you I will take it off your hands. No sense in you not being happy and all that;)

That is a NICE stock!!!! That said, it is TOO NICE to do any of the above quoted ideas. You need an artist to make the repairs, and somebody who will take the time to make them invisible. Cutting and inserting single laminations from a donor stock for instance is one method.

+ 1 on the $200 or $250

Agree 100% Bill

...We have been loosing quality stock repair people way to quickly--and nobody to replace them.

Here are some pictures of the 44 byf k block minus the stock, which I took to a qualified Gunsmith to see what he could do.

I agree with bill regarding using an existing stock as a donor. On the other hand - I have reserves about doing this in case it would ever hit the open market and the buyer may then be fooled. I'll ask the question: "Is repairing this really any different than altering any other part of a collectable rifle?"

Agree a very do-able repair. Just need to pull plugs from a donor white glue stock of same approximate color.
